Clear Statements Instead of General Claims

At Fibertec, quality, performance and a responsible approach to people and the environment have always been at the heart of our product development. Our products were not developed responsibly only because of new legal requirements. Environmental claims have always been based on specific product characteristics, carefully selected formulations and verifiable evidence.

With the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (EmpCo, Directive (EU) 2024/825), the European Union is introducing stricter requirements for environmental and sustainability claims. From 27 September 2026, general environmental terms such as “Eco”, “environmentally friendly”, “green”, “sustainable” or similar statements may no longer be used without a clear and verifiable explanation. Environmental symbols, icons or labels must also not create the impression of an independent certification or comprehensive environmental performance unless they are based on a recognised certification scheme.

In future, it must therefore be clear which specific product characteristic an environmental claim refers to, how it has been assessed and what the limits of that claim are. General advertising promises are no longer sufficient. Environmental information must be understandable, reliable, substantiated and verifiable.

At Fibertec, the suffix “Eco” has thus fa served as an umbrella term for our holistic commitment to responsibly developed products. It could encompass various aspects, such as the composition and biodegradability of the formula or the selection of raw materials.

However, according to the new EmpCo requirements, such a general term is too broad, as consumers must be able to immediately recognize which specific product characteristic an environmental claim refers to and how it is substantiated. In the future, we will therefore identify and explain these characteristics individually, precisely, and in a product-specific manner, and we will no longer include the “Eco” suffix in our product names.

Our products remain unchanged. Formulations, quality, application, and performance will stay the same. The only changes are to product names, labels, and the way we communicate verified properties.

The products themselves remain unchanged. Their formulations, quality, application and performance remain the same. Only the product names, label designs and the way in which verified product characteristics are communicated are changing.

For example, the biodegradability of selected products is tested according to the internationally recognized OECD 301 F test method by independent laboratories accredited under DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. In addition, Fibertec is a bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER; selected products also meet the requirements for bluepass® products.

In the future, you’ll be able to use the QR codes on our packaging to access direct information about each product, including test procedures, results, and certification documentation.

We’re not changing our stance. We’re changing how we communicate. Going forward, we’ll demonstrate and substantiate even more specifically the unique properties and verified performance characteristics that set every single Fibertec product apart.
